The reality is that most don't even come close. When I'm looking for a new 'ideal' sex model, I have a very specific body type and personality. Probably one in 20 have what I'm looking for. It's all very subjective. So there is a lot of rejection in the sex film business (not to mention the brutal realities of mainstream Hollywood). This constant rejection and the pounding down on their dreams can lead to mental instability.
But I must say the just trying to fulfill your dreams is a big step forward. It took me years of effort to become 'Andrew Blake' and my success was due to luck, being in the right place at the right time, talent and drive. Everything in Hollywood film and tv is a big hurdle to achieve, even getting a serious career in porn.
I've stated this before - the problem with porn today is the rapid advance in technology - now everyone can be a photographer and filmmaker (or video maker as the case may be for most), cheap so-called HD cameras and editing systems. The commodification of sex in the late 90's and 2000's and with the advent of the internet has only served to numb the public's attention to sexual excitement. There is something terribly exciting about buying or looking at 'forbidden images', and that's somehow been lost today.
I grew up in the 1950's and the most sexually decisive moment for me is when I was about 12 and discovered my father's collection of 8-mm stag films including (maybe a Betty Page - Irving Klaw) bondage film. Adding to this thrill was the clandestine manner of threading the film into the little machine and projecting it on my bedroom wall in the dark when my parents were not home.
Now there is a glut of porn content that mostly all looks the same. I know of more than one big company here in LA that shoots ALL their movies in the same two locations!! Don't people catch on to this or is it just me?. To be successful today one has to find their own personal niche in the market. There's a trend in porn now to make silly knock-offs of TV shows and Feature films. One movie that was released last year and super hyped is in my opinion a very naive, childlike themed costume picture. I've talked to several girls that attended the premiere who said it reminded them of a high school play. This is the wrong approach to making a sexy movie. Can't they think up an original idea? Really. Special effects simply get in the way of the erotic subject matter and certainly special effects don't belong in a porn movie unless you're talking about natural breasts! Kira Knightly doesn't do sex on screen and certain adult actresses should not attempt dialog. But thats just my opinion.

One of my many European models, Kyla Cole was a special case. She was in Los Angeles shooting stills for the various men's magazines when she came over to meet me at my studio. She was hired on the spot! Our first film shoot took us to Rome for BLOND & BRUNETTES with Aria Giovanni, Anita Blond and Kelle Marie. Then to Paris for EXHIBITIONISTS and then again to Rome for THE VILLA. She's a quiet, private person on set, letting out her smoldering personality and sexuality in front of the cameras. I learned a lot about the Italian cinema while shooting this film, especially the catered lunches which always included a choice of either red or white wine. My crew of models would always fall asleep in the van on the way back to our hotel. Apparently the consumption of wine during the day improves the filmmaking process in Italy!

Ginger Jolie is another model that came to me courtesy of Hustler Magazine. This clip is from my film CLOSE-UPS. As you can see she is sporting a fill bush! It's highly unusual for a girl of her quality to have lush pubic hair, and I took full advantage of this in CLOSE-UPS and then BODY LANGUAGE. I was invited to send this trailer for my film GIRLFRIENDS to an emerging indie porn studio in Barcelona. My understanding is that they will include it on a DVD with some other companies like Vivid and Viv Thomas. I don't know how I'll mix with that style of video footage, but since I spent several hours editing this trailer, I thought I'd share it with you.
Here is a little background about this film. Before this shoot the girls and I had just returned from the Summer in Paris filming EXHIBITIONISTS, so it was nice to shoot locally. GIRLFRIENDS was shot in several houses which are architectural icons in the Bel Air neighborhood of Los Angeles.
And the girls? SIERRA was an exceptional young model that we took to Europe. It was her first time traveling out of the US. She immediately made friends with Justine (also her first time abroad). Sierra was a Los Angeles girl represented by a major modeling agency. She told me that the fashion/photo business was way more perverted than nude modeling. So she decided that nude fashion modeling was the way to go and to shoot with us exclusively.
Not only did she get to be a totally nude exhibitionist, she could avoid the silly politics of the photo/fashion world! But eventually she went back to her former 'normal' life. At least she can look back and acknoledge what a world class beauty she was at the age of 20!
One of my favorite shots of Sierra was from EXHIBITIONISTS. She's sitting in front of a French Chateau, taking a puff from a cigarette she's holding between her toes. I just loved the beautiful Sierra.
This was also Monica Mendez' first film with me. She was a Stripper that I'd seen in several clubs here in town that also modeled for Playboy.
Obviously, Monica's hugh breasts set her apart from the other girls, and I was immediately attracted to her. We became friends and then Monica became my 'Topless Studio Assistant'. There's nothing like coming into work on a Monday morning and having the topless Monica handing me my coffee! In 2010 I'm going to again give her the total glamour/fashion treatment she really deserves.To me she is a breath of fresh air for this business (or should I say monkey-business.)
